Building a Resume Part 1

Junior year is almost coming to an end.  Before you know it senior year will be here and you have to…. dun dun dun…. apply to colleges! Completing applications is similar to trying to recite everything you have done in the last three years over and over and over again.  So before you start, take some time to build your resume.  Compiling the resume is time consuming on the front end, but will save your hours when filling out applications and will assist you in securing internships/jobs.  See below for the first step in building a resume!

Gathering Data

Building your resume starts with some intensive data gathering.  Look at the list below and make sure you have all the applicable information:

  • Cumulative GPA (9th, 10th, & 11th grade)                                
  • Un-weighted GPA                                          
  • 1st SAT date and score breakdown                          
  • 2nd SAT date and score breakdown         
  • 1st ACT date and score breakdown                          
  • 2nd ACT date and score breakdown         
  • SAT Subject tests, dates, and scores      
  • College Courses taken and grades achieved
  • AP classes
  • AP test dates and scores
  • Honors Given
  • Awards Won
  • Volunteer work done
  • Work Experience
  • Extracurricular activities
